In the past few decades alone, spurred by Frank Gehry’s Guggenheim Bilbao in Spain, there’s been a museum boom that caused architects to push their practices in new directions, and while the momentum of that boom has died down, its energy lives on. The Deconstructivist ‘Crystal’ of aluminum and glass stands atop a steel frame that holds the structure away from the existing walls and allows for an increased attendance of the museum — aiming to reach nearly 1.5 million visitors per year.
