Enjoy astonishing views of Lisbon from its miradouros (hilltop viewing terraces) or by zipping up 45m in the Gothic-wrought iron Santa Justa Lift. Tour an abundance of wine cellars in oenophiles’ dream Porto, before climbing to dizzying heights at Paris’ Eiffel Tower. Kiss Ireland’s famed Blarney Stone to ramp up your eloquence levels, try your hand at high-speed boating in Southampton, before travelling to Bruges to get to know the waterways of ‘Venice of the North’. While European culture has been shaped by ancient times and the Renaissance, it remains an ever-evolving cultural hub, where the old converges with the new. In Barcelona experience seaside charm, classic flamenco dancing, and zeitgeisty modern art set to the wondrous backdrop of Antoni Gaudí’s La Sagrada Família. Valencia serves up serious Gothic-Baroque treasures and the futuristic Santiago Calatrava-designed City of Arts and Sciences, while Málaga remains synonymous with Pablo Picasso, one of the most influential artists of the 20th-century.

GM shares new details of Ultra Cruise ADAS that will debut on $300K Cadillac Celestiq

It compares the vehicle’s position, taken from both GPS and onboard cameras, to its location in a lidar map collected by GM. Once the vehicle knows where it is and that it’s safe to activate, Super Cruise will take over both steering and acceleration. GM’s next-generation hands-free driver assist system, Ultra Cruise, will be powered by a scalable compute architecture featuring system-on-chips developed by American semiconductor company Qualcomm Technologies, Inc. The Snapdragon SoCs are designed with 5nm process technology, enabling superior performance and power efficiency. The Snapdragon SA8540P SoCs will provide the necessary bandwidth for Ultra Cruise’s sensing, perception, planning, localization, mapping and driver monitoring.

The launch of the Cadillac Celestiq remains on schedule for early 2024 followed by GM’s safe deployment of Ultra Cruise at some point thereafter. Ditman described Ultra Cruise as a “route following feature” that maintains headways and follows the speed limit. Ultra Cruise will also support automatic and on-demand lane changes, left and right hand turns, avoid close objects, and enable parking in residential driveways. After years of teases, General Motors is finally pulling the curtain back on its next-generation “hands-free” driver-assist technology.

GM Is Not Cancelling Ultra Cruise, Just Merging It With Super Cruise

Ultra Cruise’s compute, which is about the size of two laptops stacked together, will be available in 2023 on vehicles including the ultra-luxury, fully-electric Cadillac CELESTIQ. GM will be the first company to use the Qualcomm Technologies’ Snapdragon Ride™ Platform for advanced driver assistance technology, which features an industry-leading 5-nanometer Snapdragon™ SA8540P SoC and SA9000P artificial intelligence accelerator. There are some notable differences, however, starting with GM's array of equipment that feeds information to the system. Ultra Cruise will utilize cameras, radar, and LiDAR, whereas Tesla relies solely on cameras.

Relax on some of the prettiest beaches in the Mediterranean and the Baltic, and stay ahead of the foodie curve feasting on New Nordic Cuisine. Iceland’s Blue Lagoon is quite unlike anywhere else on the planet, and Greenland’s incomparable raw beauty has to be seen to be believed. Whether being moved by the mountains, or spotting majestic humpback whales off the shores of Newfoundland, this is a journey jam-packed with once-in-a-lifetime wonders. Whether Swedish fika - the ritual of chatting over coffee and cake - Copenhagen’s culinary works of art or Baltic favourites, expect tastebud-tickling stuff.

We have learned the vehicles will feature over 20 different sensors including long and short range cameras and radars, LiDAR (GM wouldn’t share the supplier yet), and an advanced driver monitoring system to ensure the driver remains attentive. GM says the sensors are not redundant but instead fuse together to give full, 360-degree sensory coverage of a given EV. Super Cruise was first released way back in 2017 on the then-new Cadillac CT6 gasoline-powered luxury sedan. It has long been classified as a "Level 2" type of semi-autonomous technology, a driver assistance aid above purely human operation. Over the past few years, GM has upgraded Super Cruise as it spread to a variety of other gas and electric models, including the Chevrolet Bolt, Cadillac Escalade and Lyriq, GMC Hummer EV and many more. The latest version of Super Cruise includes features like automatic lane-changing, and is widely regarded as one of the better ADAS technologies on the market.

GM is preparing for another major expansion of its hands-free Super Cruise system

Despite its enhanced capabilities, GM says it still considers Ultra Cruise a Level 2 system, as defined by the Society of Automotive Engineers. At Level 2, the vehicle can control both steering and acceleration and deceleration as well as monitor blind spots and even change lanes automatically. But the driver needs to stay vigilant and keep their eyes on the road; if they don’t, the vehicle’s infrared sensors will detect it, and the system will send several warnings to the driver before disengaging. Ultra Cruise will ultimately enable door-to-door hands-free driving on all public paved roads in the U.S. and Canada. GM is also developing an Ultra Cruise app that will be viewable in the center display of Ultra Cruise-equipped vehicles only when the vehicle is parked. The app will provide more centrally located information, including driver’s statistics, trips and history.

Only premium GM EVs will get Ultra Cruise capabilities

Step back in time at the Settlement Exhibition in Reykjavik, which houses archeological ruins which date back to the country’s settlement in 874 AD, and the ruins of a 10th-century Viking longhouse. Greenland is a place where age-old Inuit culture, Norse history and contemporary European and Canadian influences collide. In Qaqotoq, Norse ruins at Hvalsey Church rub up against crimson colonial-era houses, while the fascinating collection at Nuuk’s Greenland National Museum spans Stone Age tools, 15th-century mummies and Inuit dog sledges.

Scenic Eclipse II is one of a very select number of expedition cruise ships providing such adventurous ways to explore the world’s remotest destinations. The last leg of the Ultimate World Cruise is an absolute corker, a vacation like no other. Come face to face with world-class art - The Mona Lisa at The Louvre, Van Gogh’s Sunflowers in Amsterdam and The Scream at the Munch Museum. Stand in awe as you take in city-defining architectural icons from the Eiffel Tower to the flamboyant mosaic-clad Church of Our Savior on Blood in St Petersburg.

So amid reports that the Ultra Cruise program was ending, a source familiar with the situation indicated GM was merging that program with Super Cruise. The automaker had two different teams working on two different solutions, this source said, and since Ultra Cruise was designed to be just a "more capable" Level 2 system, it made sense internally to combine them. Ultimately, what GM may end up doing is offering higher and better "levels" of Super Cruise as new, more automated vehicles roll out.

Fabled Casablanca offers a great introduction to Arabic culture, home to the opulent Hassan II Mosque, known for its 210m-tall minaret and zellige tiles. Cork’s creativity comes to life at the renowned Crawford Art Gallery, England’s seafaring history runs deep in Southampton, and France’s cultural superstar Paris - with the Eiffel Tower, Arc de Triomphe and home of the Mona Lisa, The Louvre, need no introduction. As a rule, ships in the luxury market are smaller than those in the mainstream, which lets them visit smaller ports and aids the staff in providing truly personalized service. The smallest vessels (the two SeaDream yachts, plus Seabourn's Pride, Legend, and Spirit) carry only 100 to 200 passengers, while the largest would barely be midsize by mainstream standards, carrying only 700 to 1,000 passengers apiece.

Despite their incredible capabilities for accessing wilderness, there’s no denying the sleek aesthetic design of Scenic’s Discovery Yachts. Creative, contemporary-cool Reykjavik has galleries and music venues - where everything from metal to ethereal folk is performed - galore. Architecture buffs will delight in Guðjón Samuelsson’s Hallgrimskirkja Church, a glacier-inspired modernist building with a 75-m spire. Thanks to the hot springs and geothermal pools which punctuate Iceland’s volcanic terrain, experience the country’s bathing culture at Natural World Wonder The Blue Lagoon.

GM first announced Ultra Cruise during an investor event in 2021, describing it as a massive leap over the company’s Super Cruise system, which allows for hands-free driving on mapped divided highways. In contrast, Ultra Cruise will cover “95 percent” of driving scenarios on 2 million miles of roads in the US, the company said. That's all changed today with the official unveiling of Ultra Cruise, GM's answer to Tesla's controversial Full Self-Driving system. The system will sit above Super Cruise, offering functionality more in line with what Tesla eventually wants to provide. But the Detroit automaker is taking a step further than the California-based EV manufacturer. Ultra Cruise will join GM’s lineup of hands-free advanced driver-assist systems on select models in 2023, with Cadillac being the first to introduce the technology.
